Although I can remember wanting to be a painter when I was just 5 years old and my art and its' study have always been a part of my life, serious focus on the work only started in 2011 when I moved into the studio in the Village. My earlier visual arts study was heavily focused in Western Classical traditions and portraiture but it was a switch from oils to the vibrant colours of acrylics that gave me the tools I needed to express how I see the world. I am a self-taught artist whose work consists of a marriage between abstract hard edges and organic shape. I believe in not just re-creating what I see in my mind; rather simply setting up the laws that govern the universe of each canvas, and then just letting it evolve as it will. I strive to balance as much colour, shape and repeating pattern as possible into each piece and the result is a distinctive style that I hope creates a sense of movement and harmony that is both expansive and joyful. |
